The Croatian Civil Aviation Agency has issued six drone pilot certificates to employees of Hrvatske šume and Vojvodinašume. The drones were procured as part of the Siga2Kazuk project to strengthen the organisations’ capacities for remote forest monitoring and aerial imaging.

The certificates enable employees to conduct more advanced drone operations in the vicinity of people and buildings, in compliance with the applicable safety requirements for the Open Category.

Following the procurement of the unmanned aerial vehicles, all participants will receive additional training in operational flying and aerial imaging. This practical training will complement their theoretical qualifications and equip them with the skills needed for the day-to-day use of unmanned aerial systems in forestry.

This activity was implemented as part of the Siga2Kazuk project – A Model for the Restoration of Endangered Floodplain Forests Supported by Remote Sensing in the Danube Cross-Border Area, funded by the Interreg VI-A IPA Croatia–Serbia 2021–2027 Programme.

The project aims to develop a joint, collaborative model based on nature-based solutions to address shared environmental challenges, improve ecosystem connectivity, conserve biodiversity, prevent forest degradation and strengthen climate resilience. It also seeks to enhance cross-border cooperation between the two organisations and facilitate knowledge transfer through online and on-site training, improving forestry professionals’ skills in the use of drones for forest monitoring and management.
