An Open Day event was held in Novi Sad as part of the INTERCLIM project – Interactive Climate-Service System: Use of Green Infrastructure and an Online Toolkit for Better Adaptation and Resilience to Climate Change Hazards in the Croatia–Serbia Cross-Border Region.
The event introduced citizens and stakeholders to an innovative approach to green infrastructure as a nature-based solution for urban heat adaptation. The main focus was the concept of the “Green Room”, an outdoor living space designed to provide shade, greenery, and a welcoming place for relaxation in public areas, accessible to all citizens.

The first Green Room is located at Štrand Beach in Novi Sad, while two additional units are planned for urban hotspots in central city squares. Each Green Room will cover approximately 10 m² and feature green walls with a variety of low- and medium-height plants, providing around 35 m² of greenery in total.
To improve comfort and usability, each unit will be equipped with a pole-mounted solar panel to supply electricity for interior lighting. Benches and one or two tables will be placed inside and along the outer walls, creating a comfortable space for residents to rest and socialise. A dedicated shelf will also offer books and magazines on green solutions, ecology, sustainable development, and related environmental topics.

During the Open Day, visitors had the opportunity to learn about the Green Room concept and explore the potential climate and environmental benefits of nature-based solutions in urban areas. By introducing more greenery into public spaces, the initiative aims to contribute to climate change adaptation, improve urban liveability, and raise awareness of sustainable development.
The INTERCLIM project is implemented under the Interreg VI-A IPA Croatia–Serbia 2021–2027 Programme. With a total budget of 1,805,768 euro the project is co-financed by the European Union at a rate of 85%.
