As part of the implementation of the project “Monitoring and Management of Invasive Plant Species in the Cross-Border Area Supported by Artificial Intelligence – AInspec,” the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Areas of Vukovar-Srem County has further strengthened its technical and professional capacities for monitoring and managing invasive plant species.

A key result of the project is the procurement of drones and related equipment, creating new opportunities for the application of modern technologies in nature monitoring. The use of drones will enable more efficient field data collection, aerial surveying of hard-to-reach areas, and improved monitoring of the distribution and condition of invasive plant species.

By providing a broader and more detailed view of natural areas, drone-based monitoring will contribute to the collection of more accurate and timely information. The data obtained through aerial surveys will support the planning and implementation of future management activities and contribute to more effective protection of biodiversity and natural habitats.

To ensure the safe and effective use of the newly acquired equipment, staff of the Public Institution completed professional drone training at the Regional Center of Competence of the Agricultural and Forestry School in Vinkovci. The training combined theoretical knowledge with practical exercises, providing participants with the skills needed for safe drone operation, field applications, and the collection of high-quality data for further monitoring and management activities.

The combination of modern equipment and investment in staff knowledge and competencies represents an important step in strengthening the Public Institution’s capacity to carry out nature conservation and biodiversity protection activities. The introduction of drone technology will enable more precise, efficient, and comprehensive field surveys while contributing to the modernization of nature monitoring and management systems.

These activities also directly support the broader objectives of the AInspec project, establishing the technical and human-resource conditions needed for the future application of artificial intelligence-supported monitoring and management solutions for invasive plant species in protected areas across the cross-border region.
