On Thursday, 8 October, a technical meeting was held at the Morović Forest Administration, part of the Sremska Mitrovica Forest Estate of the public enterprise Vojvodinašume, to mark the completion of activities to establish a groundwater monitoring system. The meeting was organised as part of the RETFOR project – Strengthening Climate Change Resilience Measures for the Protection and Restoration of Ecosystems in the Spačva–Bosut Basin.
Representatives of MEGRA d.o.o. from Belgrade presented the results of the completed activities and delivered theoretical and practical training on the use of the installed equipment for the automated monitoring of groundwater levels in forests.

Participants learned how DIVER-type automatic data loggers operate and how they are used to continuously measure and record groundwater levels in piezometers. The practical training took place in the field, where the equipment was demonstrated, along with procedures for collecting and transferring measurement data.
Particular attention was given to the use of the collected data for ongoing groundwater monitoring and its application in the next project activity: the development of software for dynamic groundwater modelling.

The establishment of the groundwater monitoring system represents an important step towards a better understanding of the hydrological regime of the Spačva–Bosut Basin. It will also provide a scientific and data-based foundation for planning measures to conserve and restore forest ecosystems, strengthening their resilience to climate change.
