#SAVAROUTE Kick-off Conference of the Project Held in Belgrade

The kick-off conference of the #SavaRoute project – Development of a Joint Cycling Tourism Product and Activation of Natural and Cultural Heritage along the Sava River was held in Belgrade last week.

The conference highlighted the significant but still underused tourism potential of the Sava River, as well as the growing demand for sustainable, active and cycling tourism. The project is an important step towards the future certification of EuroVelo 18 – Sava Route, connecting Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, as well as the capitals Ljubljana, Zagreb and Belgrade.

The two-year project, running from 1 March 2026 to 29 February 2028, aims to develop a joint, green, sustainable and smart tourism product along the Sava River. The planned cycling route will connect the natural and cultural heritage of Croatia and Serbia, contributing to sustainable tourism, local development and stronger cross-border cooperation.

The #SavaRoute project is implemented under the Interreg IPA Croatia–Serbia 2021–2027 Programme. Its total value is €805,690.27, with 85% co-financed by the European Union.

The project brings together five partners: the Ministry of Tourism and Youth of the Republic of Serbia as lead partner, the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia, Vukovar-Srijem County, the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, University of Zagreb, and the Tourist Organization of the City of Sremska Mitrovica.
