As part of the CREATEGREEN project, the City of Osijek has successfully completed the installation of a 0.35 MW solar power plant on the roof of a building of the Osijek Public Transport Company.
The installation was completed in accordance with the approved project documentation, marking an important step towards the practical implementation of renewable energy solutions. This investment contributes to the objectives of the Interreg IPA Croatia–Serbia Programme by promoting clean energy, strengthening environmental sustainability, and enhancing capacities across the cross-border region.
Following its planned connection to the electricity grid next month, the solar power plant is expected to generate significant energy savings and deliver long-term environmental benefits to the local community.
The investment represents an important contribution to climate action and sustainable energy development in the Programme area. In addition to its direct benefits, it is expected to encourage the wider adoption of solar energy technologies throughout the cross-border region. The project will also support the development of an innovative, small-scale system for monitoring solar power plant performance, enabling accurate assessment and continuous monitoring of energy production efficiency.
The City of Osijek will be among the direct beneficiaries of this investment. Using solar-generated electricity to meet municipal energy needs will help reduce operating costs and improve overall energy efficiency.
The project is also expected to benefit a wider range of stakeholders, including local and regional authorities, sectoral organisations, educational and research institutions, and non-governmental organisations working in the fields of renewable energy, climate policy, environmental adaptation, resilience, and public health.
Furthermore, companies and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) involved in the manufacturing, installation, and development of solar energy systems will be able to build on the project’s findings and practical experience. This will create opportunities for further innovation and support the continued development of renewable energy technologies across the Croatia–Serbia cross-border region.
