A conference held in Subotica marked the official launch of the FLOW (Facilitating Local Water Supply Optimization) project, which is being implemented under the Interreg Croatia–Serbia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme. The project is expected to significantly improve water supply services for residents of Mirgeš, Gornji Tavankut, Donji Tavankut, and Palić.

The FLOW project aims to construct a pumping station at the starting point of the future Subotica–Mirgeš–Tavankut main water pipeline. The initiative is being implemented by the Subotica Waterworks and Sewerage Public Utility Company, the Stara Pazova Waterworks and Sewerage Public Utility Company, the Municipality of Tompojevci (Croatia), and the Ruđer Bošković Institute from Zagreb.

The project builds on earlier efforts to prepare the necessary technical and project documentation for the construction of the water pipeline. Once completed, it is expected to address long-standing water supply challenges while providing residents of Tavankut with improved utility services and modern infrastructure. The enhanced water network is also expected to support the development of local agriculture and tourism.

Following the conference, participants visited the site in Subotica where the pumping station will be constructed and received a presentation on the planned works. The program also included a visit to the Gallery of the First Straw Art Naïve Art Colony in Tavankut.

The total value of the approved project is €972,180, with 85% of the funding provided by the European Union through the Interreg Croatia–Serbia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme.

The new pumping station will play a crucial role in delivering water from Subotica’s municipal water supply system to the settlements of Mirgeš, Donji Tavankut, and Gornji Tavankut, helping to ensure a more reliable and sustainable water supply for the area.
