As part of the Interreg VI-A IPA Programme Croatia–Serbia – CALL4HER project, a lecture and workshop on early detection of breast cancer were held in Apatin and  Vinkovci.

The lecturers were physicians employed at the Apatin Health Centre and the General Hospital in Sombor. They presented prognostic and predictive parameters of breast cancer, the organised breast cancer screening programme in the Municipality of Apatin, as well as the implementation of the CALL4HER project through the work of the gynaecology service of the Apatin Health Centre.

Early detection saves lives – knowledge is our strongest protection.

At the Vinkovci lecture and workshop eight experts from various medical fields, as well as individuals with personal experience with this serious disease, delivered presentations that provided participants with a deeper understanding of breast cancer, its clinical significance, and the challenges related to diagnosis and treatment.

"

Following the lectures, a practical workshop was organised at the Radiology Department of the Vinkovci County General Hospital, where physicians from different medical specialties exchanged knowledge and experience on this important topic and diagnostic procedures. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of early diagnosis, which significantly increases the success of therapy and improves treatment outcomes. The presentations also highlighted the need for continuous improvement of healthcare service quality, as well as the importance of expanding the capacity and availability of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

A significant contribution in this context was achieved through the implementation of this project, particularly through the procurement of new medical equipment, which has substantially enhanced the institution’s resources and functional capacities. Breast cancer represents a major public health challenge and is the most common form of malignant disease among women in both Croatia and Serbia.
