After participating at this year’s finals of the REGIOSTARS awards, partners of the R-SOL-E project welcomed journalists of Euronews to make a new episode of the Smart Regions show.
Among 24 projects that entered the finals of the REGIOSTARS competition in Brussels in October 2019 was R-SOL-E, a project co-funded within the Interreg IPA CBC programme Croatia – Serbia 2014-2020. The competition was open to projects that showcase new approaches and innovativeness in addressing regional challenges.
Europe’s number one news channel
The competition allowed R-SOL-E’s results to reach wider audiences, among which were journalists of Euronews, a widely recognized news channel that reaches almost 400 million people across 160 countries and in 7 different languages. Since its launch in 1993 in Lyon, Euronews brings local and global news about innovations, cooperation and the EU.
Fighting pollution, developing supercomputers, setting up renewable energy innovations…
Journalists of Euronews have invited R-SOL-E partners to be part of Smart Regions, a show dedicated to presenting leading projects with a high added value for European citizens and the planet. Smart Regions tours European countries to find Cohesion Policy projects which brought real benefits to communities across Europe. During October, they visited Belišće, Gorjani and Novi Sad.
Decreasing energy consumption, increasing cooperation
Ljerka Vučković, project manager, explained R-SOL-E’s importance:
“It is being utilized on public buildings, it’s being utilized on such buildings which are used daily by children or by our citizens. This is something that gives innovation to this project. So we produce electricity for our purposes. But in days when we produce too much, then the national power company actually takes it over and it gives us money for that energy. It is a kind of innovation in our region for public authorities to set an example in using renewable energy and to show what the benefits are.”
“Whether is the field of renewable energy, protection of environment or tourism, there is always common ground. And I think that Interreg programmes, which are about cross-border cooperation, are allowing us to find common topics on which we can build bridges. So not to go back, but to look to the future.”
