On 12 March 2026, the Osijek Zoo and Aquarium hosted the opening conference for a project to build a new hippopotamus enclosure, alongside the ceremonial opening of the Slavonian Village.
The projects MAJESTIC ZOO-S (Slavonian Village) and ZOO PAST-PORT (Hippopotamus Enclosure) are being implemented within the Interreg IPA Croatia–Serbia Programme 2021–2027, financed by European Union funds.
The MAJESTIC ZOO-S project focuses on preserving and presenting the traditional heritage of Slavonia through the creation of the Slavonian Village, a space designed to showcase the region’s cultural and historical identity. Meanwhile, the ZOO PAST-PORT project includes the construction of a new enclosure for Hippopotamus, aimed at improving living conditions for the animals while further expanding the educational and visitor offerings of the Osijek zoo.
The Osijek Zoo and Aquarium operates as part of the municipal company Unikom d.o.o.
