Organised by the Public Institution “Kopački rit Nature Park” and its partners, the 15th International Symposium Kopački rit – Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow was held on 1 and 2 October 2026. The symposium focused on current issues related to nature protection, biodiversity conservation, and the sustainable management of natural and forest ecosystems.
Special attention was given to the challenges faced by natural ecosystems as a result of climate change. In this context, the Symposium provided an excellent opportunity to present the activities and results achieved so far within the RETFOR project.
The project was presented in the Symposium Book of Abstracts and through a poster presentation. Participation in the event provided an opportunity to exchange experiences on the implementation of projects focused on adapting forest ecosystems to climate change, as well as to share knowledge and expertise with representatives of other institutions and professionals working in the fields of nature conservation and ecosystem management.

The main objective of the Symposium was to promote interdisciplinary and innovative approaches to nature conservation. Particular emphasis was placed on the sustainable management of natural resources, as well as the social and economic benefits arising from cooperation with stakeholders and local users of protected areas. The participation of renowned international speakers further strengthened the Symposium’s international dimension, providing an opportunity for knowledge sharing and exchange of experience beyond Croatia.
The event brought together numerous experts and representatives of institutions, scientific and professional organisations, and other stakeholders working in the fields of nature conservation, protected area management, and the preservation of valuable ecosystems.
