Within the framework of the “Interventions on the Danube – I.D. Danube” project, implemented with the support of the European Union under the Interreg VI-A IPA Programme Croatia – Serbia 2021–2027, the first of two planned roundtables on the joint analysis of river traffic on the Danube was held in Novi Sad on 26 February 2026.

The event brought together river traffic experts from the cross-border region of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Croatia, with the aim of improving cooperation and exchanging experiences in the field of navigational safety on the Danube River. In addition to representatives of the project partners: the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia – Sector for Emergency Management, the Fund for European Affairs and Development of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Vukovar-Srijem County and the Public Institution Port Authority Vukovar, the roundtable was also attended by representatives from the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia – Directorate for Inland Waterways, Port Governance Agency, Provincial Secretariat for Energy, Construction and Transport of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Croatia – Civil Protection Directorate, Vukovar Regional Office. Through constructive discussion, the participants analysed the current state of river traffic, identified key risks and explored opportunities to improve coordination during emergency situations.

The roundtable underscored how essential the Danube is, as an international waterway, for economic development, the transport of goods and public safety, stressing that coordinated interventions and the timely exchange of information are key factors for effective risk management and appropriate response in emergency situations.

The first roundtable marks an important step in the implementation of project activities. The second meeting of the professional community is planned to be held in the Republic of Croatia, with the aim of further discussing topics of mutual interest, exchanging experiences and defining concrete recommendations to improve cross-border cooperation in the field of river traffic on the Danube.
