Final conference of project BIOSOL

Final conference of the project Use of biomass and solar energy as renewable sources for sustainable and efficient energy for stand-alone complexes with a social purpose – BIOSOL, co-funded through the Interreg IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme Croatia-Serbia 2014-2020, was held at Nova Gradiška City Hall on 17 December 2021.

The conference was opened and led by the project manager on behalf of the City of Nova Gradiška, Maja Savi. Deputy Mayor of Nova Gradiška Borislav Vidošić, the President of the Assembly of the City of Šabac and also the project manager Nemanja Pajić, and President of the LAG Western Slavonia as a representative of the third partner in the project Vitomir Žakić expressed their satisfaction with the successful achievement of project results and pointed out the excellent cooperation, as well as the desire to continue further collaboration.

The project has resulted in an increase of infrastructure capacity for energy production from renewable energy sources in the cross-border area, which combined have the maximum capacity for energy production of 1.07 MW.

The project assistant on behalf of the City of Šabac Ivana Mićović presented project activities and achieved results in the City of Šabac. The most important demonstration model units were for education on energy efficiency, e-vehicle, “smart bench”, equipment for Small district renewable energy plant, construction of another boiler room and pipelines for up to 6 social facilities.  Project coordinator Maja Savi presented the realization of project results in the City of Nova Gradiška area – Smart Consumption Control System for electricity consumption measurement, the solar tree and solar power plant. Project assistant Gordana Šimić presented the Energy Strategy of the City of Nova Gradiška, as another significant project result. Finally, on behalf of the LAG Western Slavonia project assistant Roberta Prankić presented the activity of analysing the availability of biomass from forestry, agriculture and industry in the City of Nova Gradiška and surrounding municipalities for the purpose of determining energy potential.

The conference participants visited the solar power plant in the Nova Gradiška Industrial Zone, where the Head of the Administrative Department for Communal Services Tomislav Sigurnjak explained the functioning of the power plant. The solar power plant with the power of 0.5 MW will produce about 600,000 kWh per year, thus covering the costs of the electricity for social facilities owned by the City.
