Over 60 participants from Croatia and Serbia met on 3 October 2017 to present a new EU-funded project. The ’Central Danube Tour’ project is focused on the need to strengthen, diversify and integrate tourism offer and valorize tourism sector in the cross-border region.
Financed with around EUR 600,000, the’Central Danube Tour’ project aims to strengthen tourism through development, management and promotion of unique cross-border Central Danube tourism destination by integrating multiethnic heritage, nature and culture related resources and attractions in one joint offer visible on local, regional and international market.
The Project aims to foster tourism development by improving the skills and capacities of stakeholders and operators of the sector, valorising Central Danube’s tourist potential, and finally by upgrading the organization of the offer in Croatian and Serbian cross-border region.
By creating a joint offer of tourist products and services presented through thematic cross-border routes, as well as effectively increase the competitiveness of tourist sector of the area by providing joint destination management tools to the target group, the Project aims to contribute to the cross-border tourism expansion and its overall development.
The Central Danube Tour project includes many activities such as:
- Education and exchange of best practice and know-how;
- Joint study visit to tourism event promoting cross-border tourism ‘’Gusti di Frontiera’’;
- Establishment of joint cross-border thematic routes;
- Updated Central Danube tourism resource database;
- Elaboration of the Joint Central Danube Tourism Routes;
- Valorisation of the traditional resources of the Central Danube cross-border region in the context of tourism development;
- Strengthening the Tourism Destination management and capacity planning in the Central Danube cross-border region.
Reflecting the region’s rich natural and cultural history, the opening conference was hosted in the Museum of Taste in Osijek and attended by all project partners: Regional Development Agency of Slavonia and Baranja (HR), Provincial Secretariat for Regional Development, Interregional Cooperation and Local Self-Government (RS), Osijek-Baranja County (RS), Danube Competence Center (RS) and City of Ilok (HR).
Co-financed by the Interreg IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme Croatia-Serbia 2014-2020, the Central Danube tour seeks to achieve new tourism qualities and by doing so it will strengthen economic and territorial development of the cross-border area.
