Following the European Cooperation Day organized in Herceg Novi on 3 October and Sombor on 17 October of 2018, we followed-up with an exhibition in the Representation of the European Commission in Zagreb.
This year’s ECD was dedicated to children living in the cross-border area of both Programmes managed by the Agency for Regional Development of the Republic of Croatia: Interreg IPA CBC Croatia – Serbia 2014-2020 and Interreg IPA CBC Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2014-2020. We wanted to provide a playground in which children can learn about cooperation in the European Union and creatively express their thoughts, thus giving way to the importance of children and young people in building the European Union.
The events resulted with a beautiful set of canvases and two wall murals reflecting the geography, culture and society of our Programme areas. These canvases, painted by the children of five homes for children from Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro participating in the ECD’s, are currently set as an exhibition in the Representation of the European Commission. Photo collages and essays written by the children on their thoughts of the ECD’s are displayed as well.
We set up the exhibition with the intention of telling an imaginative story of cooperation between the countries participating in our two Interreg IPA CBC Programmes and showing how the homes for children heartily accepted our call and shared their ideas on what cooperation means to them.
With memories of the ECD in Sombor still fresh, the children of the SOS Children’s Village Ladimirevci visited our exhibition during December 2018 and recollected how fun it was to play with peers from neighboring countries.
