JS at the Urban Utopia International Congress

As part of the 2nd International Multidisciplinary Congress ‘Urban Utopia – Urban Planning Approaches’, organized by the Geography Students Club Zagreb, Slaven Kliček from the JS for the Croatia-Serbia Programme has participated and used the opportunity to present common ground between Interreg programs and geographical studies.

This year’s international congress, held from 10 to 12 November in OrisHouse of Architecture, Zagreb, was dedicated to spatial planning, covering topics on geoecology, smart cities and urban transport and tourism. More than 100 students and experts coming from different fields, including architecture, economy, demography, ecology, electronics, and geography, presented research papers and contributed to development of new solutions. In addition to presentations and panel discussions, a part of the program was dedicated to the multidisciplinarity of concerned topics and employment opportunities for students.

The JS member participated at the congress by presenting the Interreg IPA CBC Programme Croatia – Serbia and highlighting the link between Programme priority axes and challenges recognized as part of the congress.  Students were interested to find out more about the territorial development of Croatia’s and Serbia’s cross-border area, projects being implemented through the 1st Call for Proposals and employment possibilities of working in a cross-border environment as well. Slaven Kliček, project manager at the JS, discussed with the students environmental risks and cultural and natural assets of the cross-border area as well, which led them to recognize the value of their theoretical knowledge learned during study and how to apply it. Having in mind the multidisciplinary aspect of working on EU programs and projects, the discussions highlighted opportunities for professional development and ensured valuable insights of cross-border cooperation projects.
