As part of the grand opening of the “Creative Children’s Center” in Ernestinovo, the European Commission, with the support of the Municipality of Ernestinovo and the Interreg VI-A IPA Programme Croatia–Serbia, organized on Friday, 22 May, the second edition of the “EU in My School” event, following the successful launch held last autumn.
This year’s event took place in the just finished “Creative Children’s Center”, where pupils from several local elementary schools participated in artistic workshops titled “My Favorite Place”. Through the workshops, children learned more about EU-funded projects and the positive impact they have on people’s lives and the transformation of local communities, particularly through the development of cultural tourism.

Through artistic expression in clay, woodworking, and painting, children were encouraged to imagine their favorite place — real or imaginary — and reflect on what can be found there, who lives there, and why it is meaningful to them. During the creative process, the students explored their own feelings, memories, and imagination, expressing them through color, shape, and composition.
The new center was built as part of the Innatus project, funded under the Interreg VI-A IPA Cross-border Programme Croatia–Serbia.
The overall objective of the project is to strengthen the role of culture and sustainable tourism in the wider areas of the Municipality of Ernestinovo and the City of Subotica. The project aims to achieve this by enhancing stakeholder capacities, developing cultural tourism infrastructure, and creating a distinctive cultural tourism offer rooted in the shared heritage of naïve art, thereby fostering economic development, social inclusion, and social innovation across the cross-border region. Total project value is 3.92 million euro of which 1.5 mil euro is financed thru our programme
The official grand opening of the center is scheduled for June.
