Boosting Research and Innovation Capacities in Cybersecurity-oriented and Functional Safety-oriented Smart Mobility (CySafe SmartMob)

Priority Axis 1: Cooperating for smarter programme area
Operation start date: 1 February 2026
Operation completion date: 31 January 2028
Budget: EUR 822.934,06
Number of partners: 2

Operation purpose and expected achievements:
The project’s main objective is to enhance the program area’s research, innovation, and education capabilities in cybersecurity and functional safety for AI-based smart mobility through a comprehensive approach that establishes shared Living Labs, develops new research, study, and lifelong learning programs, and leverages the Cross-border Cybersecurity and Functional Safety Research & Innovation Network as a catalyst for knowledge sharing, collaborative research, and the sustainable adoption of advanced technologies.
The main outputs of the project are:
– One Cross-BorderCybersecurity and Functional Safety Research & Innovation Network and two local Networks, with included appropriate Livin Labs– Develop and deliver updated research program and updated and innovative study program
– Develop and deliver curriculum for lifelong learning for enhanced innovation-oriented research.
Through the CB Network and its lifelong learning, FERIT and FTN research staff will significantly improve their Research and Inovation capacities thanks to new infrastructure, and expertise oriented to technology transfer. Faculties will incorporate these advancements into existing study programs, making them more competitive and attractive to prospective students and companies. Students will gain access to education and research opportunities in a high-demand industry.

Beneficiaries:

Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology Osijek (HR) as Lead Partner will contribute by bringing experience in building modern research and study programs aligned with the needs of the labor market. FERIT will ensure the use of existing equipment in the automotive-related laboratory, which is also necessary for this project. Furthermore, FERIT will contribute to the project through its researchers and experts qualified to conduct SOTA research in key areas for this project: AI, smart and green vehicles, blockchain, big data, cloud, information systems security, and CS in general. The project team will also include scientists from FERIT who cover the same areas as some members of the FTN team (and vice versa), but with different experiences, which ensures a more secure achievement of the main goal and upskilling. The FERIT team has been selected in a way that includes scientists with valuable references (scientific papers, research with companies, patents), which confirms their background focused on research and innovation. They will also participate in communication and promotional activities in Osijek, to reach target groups and ensure visibility. FERIT team members will participate in the activities of equipping joint living labs in joint trainings with FTN colleagues, in order to improve research, innovation, and educational capacities. FERIT employees will also participate in the creation of new research and educational content for students and PhDs, as well as in the creation of a Lifelong Learning Program for researchers and engineers from companies. FERIT will be involved in pilot testing action within the project. FERIT staff will also hold workshops for participating companies. Together with students and researchers from companies, they will conduct innovation research, write scientific papers, and present them at conferences, thereby further strengthening research and innovation capacities in the program area.

Beneficiary’s social media:

University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Technical Sciences (RS) as Project Partner will ensure the use of existing equipment in two laboratories, which are equipped with the equipment that supports fundamental and advanced automotive software development and hardware-in-the-loop testing. Furthermore, FTN will contribute to the project through its researchers and experts qualified to conduct research in key areas for this project. These fields are complementary to the fields covered by researchers and experts from FERIT. The FTN project team has been selected in a way that includes researchers with valuable references (publications in international journals, proceedings of international conferences, textbooks, technical solutions, and patents), which confirms their background focused on research and innovation. It is complementary to the research team from FERIT in a way that part of the FTN team contains researchers in the same fields as FERIT, but with different experiences, and part of the team brings unique experiences to the project. FTN project team will participate in communication and promotional activities in Novi Sad, to reach target groups and ensure visibility. Almost all activities are carried out jointly by FERIT and FTN. Thus, FTN team members will participate in the activities of equipping the joint living labs at both locations and in joint trainings with FERIT colleagues, to improve research, innovation, and educational capacities. FTN project team will also participate in the creation of new research and educational content for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as in the creation of a lifelong learning program for researchers and engineers from companies. FTN will be involved in pilot testing action within the project. FTN staff will also hold workshops for participating companies.
