The VISITUS project starts from the rich tourism potential of our Programme area, but also highlights the insufficiently recognized and underutilized services. More precisely, the tourism offer in the region is not adapted to persons with visual impairment and blindness which leads to their exclusion from experiencing the natural and cultural heritage of the region. VISITUS therefore seeks to include persons with visual impairment and blindness in the newly designed tourism offer and combines modern solutions and ICT technologies in doing so. The main objective of VISITUS is to create preconditions for tourism accessible to all social groups. As a result, the project will develop tourism routes, action plans, organise trainings, include associations of persons with visual impairment and blindness into tourism planning and develop promo materials in braille.
The project’s lead partner, City of Sombor (SER), will map cultural and gastronomic tourism routes for the blind and visually impaired, perform field visits and gather data to create a database of destinations, and define a tourism framework that will allow all social groups to participate in the region’s tourism offer. A media campaign will be conducted as well, with the goal of promoting the project’s activities and results.
Municipality of Erdut (CRO) is responsible for providing support in mapping the new tourism offer in Osijek-Baranja County, organization of specialized training for tourism workers from Erdut and involving associations of persons with visual impairment and blindness in Osijek-Baranja County.
Institute of Economic Sciences (SER) will be responsible for conducting the tourism needs assessment among persons with visual impairment and blindness, drafting a joint Tourism action plan and developing new ways of cooperation with associations of persons with visual impairment and blindness.
VISITUS organized a specialized training titled “Tourism accessible to everyone” for persons employed in the tourism industry during October 2019
