About

The EcoWET partnership builds upon the degradation of wetland ecosystems caused by human activities and the limited capacity to deal with these consequences. Low awareness about the importance of wetlands is seen as another challenge for the cross-border area. The project will address these topics and provide solutions to them by introducing and applying a new EU methodology for assessing the ecosystems importance and developing innovative methods for their conservation. The project’s main objective is to contribute to the protection and sustainable use of wetland ecosystems in the Danube floodplain of the Croatia – Serbia cross-border region. Main outputs that will be developed within the project are Guidelines on ecosystems mapping and assessment (tested on pilot areas in the cross-border area), educational events and the ecosystem processor for wastewater purification.

Partners

The lead partner, Nature Conservation Movement of Sremska Mitrovica (SER), is in charge of ecosystem analysis, communication activities, GPS mapping, organising stakeholder workshops, setting up the ecosystem processor and making sure the coordination among partners runs efficiently.

Association for nature and environment protection Green Osijek (CRO) will manage and organize a majority of project activities on the Croatian side, such as data collecting in pilot areas, GPS mapping, developing GIS database for pilot areas in Croatia, guidelines, action plans etc.

Institute for Nature Conservation of Vojvodina Province (SER) will provide support in data collection throughout the pilot areas, developing GIS database, producing maps for pilot areas in Serbia and facilitating stakeholder workshops.

Public institution agency for management of protected natural values in Osijek-Baranja County (CRO) will participate in organization and coordination of trainings on ecosystems mapping and assessment, provide support during workshops and research and organize the final conference.
