About

The inadequate disposal of agricultural harvest residue, or biomass, is an issue widely recognized in the typical agricultural region of Croatia’s and Serbia’s cross-border area. Biomass is cheaper than commonly used types of fuel in industry so using it as an energy source would benefit both the environment and the region’s competitiveness. The Eco build partnership approaches this challenge by proposing new ways of dealing with agricultural waste and informing the community on other solutions. By improving competitiveness of the regional economy and further developing the business environment, the partners of Eco build will develop new prototypes from biomass for further use in the construction industry and introduce new forms of cooperation among biomass providers and users, construction companies and research institutions.

Partners

Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture at the University of Josip Juraj Strossmayer in Osijek (CRO) is the project’s lead partner and responsible for drafting the report on preparation and use of biomass as building material, performing research of biomass and ashes in order to develop new prototype and engaging biomass providers and users in the cooperation network that will be set up during the project.

Faculty of Technical Sciences at the University in Novi Sad (SER) is responsible for research of enterprises which dispose biomass ash as a by-product in the Serbian project area; characterization of various biomass ashes and determination of their possible application as building materials. Results of these activities will be presented and discussed on the Contemporary Civil Engineering Practice – ECO BUILD 2019 and iNDIS 2018 conferences, organised as part of the project.
