A three-day workshop titled “Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Efficiency – Knowledge and Tools for the Public and Civil Sector” was held from May 27 to 29 at the Regional Innovation Startup Center in Mali Zvornik, Serbia.
The workshop was organized within the framework of the project “Promoting Energy Efficiency in Housing and Public Buildings through Renewables – PRO-EFFICIENT”, implemented under the Interreg IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme Croatia-Serbia 2021-2027, with the support of the European Union and the Ministry of European Integration of the Republic of Serbia.
This educational program was tailored for municipal administration officers, managers of public institutions and enterprises, as well as representatives of civil society organizations. Its aim was to provide participants with knowledge on climate change, renewable energy sources, relevant legislation, and available financial mechanisms for implementing energy projects.
Over three days, the training covered the following topics:
- Basics of renewable energy and climate change;
- The environmental impact of energy production and measures to reduce ecological footprints;
- Emerging technologies in the field of renewables;
- Legal frameworks and incentives in the Republic of Serbia;
- Financing, project preparation, and sustainability planning.
Special attention was given to practical exercises such as project funding searches, simulated sustainability action plan creation, and a case study analysis of the successful “Greenland” project.
Participants described the training as highly useful and timely, highlighting some of the most valuable aspects:

According to the feedback, this workshop significantly enhanced the understanding of renewable energy potential and raised awareness of the importance of sustainable practices within public institutions and civil society organizations.
