Energy Efficient Communities (ENGAGE)

Priority Axis 2: Cooperating for greener and climate change resilient programme area
Operation start date: 15 June 2024
Operation completion date: 14 February 2026
Budget: EUR 2.162.859,11
Number of partners: 5

Operation purpose and expected achievements:
Goal of the ENGAGE project is to jointly prepare and develop concept model and implement pilot action for creating EE Communities in cross-border region. All relevant stakeholders will be involved in the project with the emphasis of including local residents of communities involved through the raising awareness campaign, examples of good practice and pilot actions. Project will educate target groups about the concept of energy communities, sustainable energy practices and enhanced community resilience.
Main outputs of this project are:
– Concept model for Energy Efficient Communities in the cross-border region which will serve as a guideline for municipalities and local communities for their design and operationalization. It will be jointly developed in a participatory approach as an umbrella solution, ready to be taken and replicated by other municipalities in the cross-border region, demonstrating specific steps as well as tools developed based on mapping and testing of solar potentials within pilot action
– Joint pilot action in cross-border region which will result in applied and tested EE software solution (B2B solar calculator).

Following that initial solar mapping of the cross-border area, demonstrative solar panels will be installed in four participating pilot municipalities. Four locations included in the pilot will serve as a starting point for developing Energy Efficient Community concept model as a joint solution ready to be taken up and upscaled by other potential beneficiaries.
The project will aim towards providing a one-of-a-kind tool-embedded, energy efficient model for creation of EE sustainable communities. The concept model for EE communities will include concrete steps on establishing and operationalization of the most efficient EE community form, taking into account specific conditions and EE potential of the given community. As such, the solution will be replicable to almost every local authority in cross-border region. This solution will be taken up by the Lead partner – City of Subotica. In the document Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan – SECAP, the City of Subotica will demonstrate their commitment to form EE Communities. The adoption of the SECAP will lead to formation of the EE communities based on the developed Concept model for EE communities and piloted solar B2B solar calculator.

Beneficiaries:

City of Subotica (RS) as Lead Partner will led the reconstruction of two schools and, placing solar panels on five locations-188kwh total power and solar panels for water heating shall all contribute to raising the level of energy efficiency of the city, have influence on the reduction of CO2 emission and promote the use of renewable energy resources. Subotica will utilize the experience of EU partners who have in using renewable energy resources and achieve cross border influence and cooperation through this joint project.

Beneficiary’s social media:

Municipality of Vladislavci (HR) as Project Partner will actively participate in development of Concept model for EE communities as a model community for concept model creation, pilot project for EE communities as a pilot in creation if EE community, organization of one event and participation in all PP EE promotion events, as well as investment in EE infrastructure: Municipality will invest in 15 public buildings (215,36 kw), and 2 solar, energy self sufficient bus stations.

National Alliance for Local Economic Development (RS) as Project Partner will contribute to the project’s specific objective To jointly develop Concept model for Energy efficient communities for 2 selected rural communities in cross-border region, one in Serbia and one in Croatia. Accordingly, in the project planning process, National Alliance for Local Economic Development had a leading role in designing and planning activities together with partners. National Alliance for Local Economic Development will coordinate the process of Mapping the potential communities, renewable energy resources, economical capacities, Development of the Concept models for Energy efficient Communities for two selected rural communities in cross-border region and Raising awareness, promotion, and education on renewable energy.
