Advanced digital application based on blood rheological characteristics for reduction of cardiovascular risk (BloodRheoApp)
Priority Axis 1: Cooperating for smarter programme area
Operation start date: 15 July 2024
Operation completion date: 14 January 2026
Budget: EUR 295.768,37
Number of partners: 2
Operation purpose and expected achievements:
The aim of the project is to utilize the research on blood rheological properties with joint effort of two expert teams in order to develop an efficient digital tool capable to give additional value to the prevention of non-communicable cardiovascular diseases. The overall objectives of the project are: to form a joint research group consisted of scientists from Serbia and Croatia capable to mitigate future research challenges in the area of CVD prevention with focus on improvement of blood rheological characteristics, and to develop user friendly digital application intended for general population containing personalized hydration recommendations for prevention of primary and secondary CVDs events. The main outputs of the project are:
– Pilot rheological testing of blood samples in cross-border region
– Digital application for personalized hydration recommendations in cardiovascular patients.
The implementation of BloodRheoApp project will enable cooperation of partners in the area of blood rheology, thus leading to development of unique research group capable for joined response to future challenges in era of epidemical proportions of non-communicable diseases. This will enable timely recognition of individuals in risk, thus improving preventive potential of healthcare system leading to decrease of expenses used for treatment of acute cardiovascular events. This research group will represent the exceptional resource for both countries and make strong foundation for development of preventive strategies in CVD. In order to maintain and further develop cooperation, partners plan to mutually sign The Agreement on Scientific Cooperation. The joined research activities of both project partners will lead to development of scientifically based digital application for hydration of organism in patients with CVD. The mathematical model – serving as application engine, is a living matter which is being improved by „training“ it through „feeding“ with novel experimental data. Such data will in future be provided from novel/future clinical data, by both partners. The application engine, as well as the actual software functionality of application will be updated by MFUNS.
Beneficiaries:
The Faculty of Medicine, University of Novi Sad (RS) as Lead Partner will be engaged in conduction of clinical study on territory of Southern-Bačka region – obtainment of required permits, recruiting of enrolled patients, blood collection and subsequent blood scientific analysis. Regarding the analysis of blood rheological parameters, the Faculty of Medicine, University of Novi Sad is in possession of an expensive and rare instrument – rheometer (Haake Mars) which will be used for analyses of blood samples. Moreover, the blood samples will be on each side of border analyzed biochemically by teams from partner institutions. The creation of database from the obtained results, as well as data processing will be joint activity performed by both team members, while the conclusions obtained will be used for creation of digital application intended for general population and will be outsourced.
The Faculty of Medicine Osijek, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek (HR) as Project Partner will be engaged in obtaining the required ethical (Ethics Committees of the Faculty of Medicine and UHC Osijek), and other necessary permits needed for recruitment of enrolled patients, their clinical and diagnostic processing, blood collection and short-term storage. Anthropometric data collection and biochemical analysis of collected blood samples will be performed as well. The collected data will be regularly and systematically recorded in the database, and used in subsequent, advanced statistical processing and development of mathematical algorithms and digital application, which will be conducted by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Novi Sad team.
