Thanks to the project “Creating energy and environmental conditions for a greener and sustainable Croatia-Serbia cross-border region” (CREATEGREEN), the Business Incubator BIOS Ltd. in Osijek has increased its renewable energy capacity by 50 kW through the installation of a new solar power plant. This installation will enhance BIOS’s energy efficiency and contribute to the sustainability of electricity supply.
The project is of great significance as it addresses an issue that affects the everyday lives of all of people who live and work in urban areas – namely, the creation of a more favorable microclimate through the use of renewable energy sources. One of the shared challenges in the Croatian-Serbian border region is the increasing energy consumption in public buildings, which is a result of insufficient energy efficiency, underutilization of renewable energy sources, and lack of awareness and knowledge related to energy efficiency and renewable energy.
For this reason, the goal of the CREATEGREEN project is to tackle this challenge by installing solar power plants on selected buildings, accompanied by promotional and educational activities.
One of the educational activities, closely connected to the installation of the first solar power plant under this project, was the workshop titled “Green Energy in the Cross-Border Region,” organized by the Business Incubator BIOS Ltd, in Osijek on 24 March 2025.
The objectives of the workshop were to provide a comprehensive overview of the CREATEGREEN project and recently installed solar power plant, to present the benefits of green energy, showcase best practice examples, discuss renewable energy sources and energy efficiency for rural areas and public policies for sustainable development.
The workshop speakers were Dr. Danijel Topić, Vice Dean for Education and Students at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology in Osijek (FERIT), Nada Perić, M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the EASTok Association, and Mislav Barić, M.Sc. in Geography from the Green Osijek Association for Nature and Environmental Protection.
After the official program, participants enjoyed a reception where they exchanged experiences and established new contacts. The relaxed atmosphere enabled further exchange of ideas and joint planning, allowing partners from Serbia and Croatia to build stronger connections and foundations for future cooperation.
