The Future of Interreg – Consultation of Stakeholders and Citizens

Interreg VI-A IPA Programme Croatia-Serbia 2021 – 2027 is a cross-border cooperation programme in the framework of the European Territorial Cooperation and part of European cohesion policy. Geographically, the Programme includes 4 counties in Croatia as well as 5 districts in Serbia, and represents a total of 25,505.00 km² of territory and over 2.1 mil. inhabitants.
The Programme is designed as an instrument that will foster cooperation between Croatia and Serbia, tackle joint challenges and indicate the possibility and need for even better cooperation in certain areas in the future. The Programme mission, besides strengthening the social, economic, and territorial development of the cross-border area, is to encourage and support cross-border cooperation to make the area more resilient to common challenges. These challenges include, among others, economic transition processes, climate change, and the long-term socioeconomic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The strategic Programme objective is sustainable development of the programme area through smart, green and socially innovative projects through the implementation of joint projects. While the first projects of the 2021-2027 perspective financed under our Programme are starting with their implementation, the Commission is already preparing the future of Cohesion Policy (“post 2027”), concerning Interreg programmes.
Since the stakeholders and citizens are those who are most concerned by the policy and know best the needs of territorial cooperation which affect their daily life, Interreg programmes are invited by DG REGIO (European Commission Directorate General for Regional and Urban Policy) to consult their stakeholders, beneficiaries, and citizens on the future of Interreg.

We encourage you to seize this unique opportunity and contribute to shaping the future of cross-border cooperation in the next financial perspective 2028-2034. Let us know which topics you deem important for cross-border cooperation, what you think works well in cross-border cooperation, and what could be improved!
